Privacy & data

PrepTalk by Upward Product Management is an invited pilot for coaching clients. This page describes what the app collects, which services process it, and the controls that exist today. It is written to be accurate about the current build rather than complete or final. Where a decision has not been made yet, it says so.

What PrepTalk collects

  • Account. Your email and name from sign-in, plus an approval flag your coach or the operator sets to let you into the pilot.
  • Practice content. Target roles, job postings you paste, questions, your spoken answers as audio and transcript, AI feedback, your self-review notes, stories you save, and confidence ratings.
  • Job Search Kit. Your access plan, progress, strategy, pitch, stories, profile and resume working notes, saved AI reviews, and one-on-one coach review requests. These are saved to your account in Supabase so they are available when you sign in on another device.
  • Resume. Only if you upload one. It is stored as a file and as parsed text so the app can tailor questions.
  • Coaching. Your connection to a coach, assignments they set, and the specific takes you choose to share with them.
  • Technical logs. Error reports and a record of each AI call (model, token counts, timing, prompt version), sign-in dates and counts of new authenticated sessions, retained historical sign-in records where recoverable, practice duration where available, and administrator access records. Historical sign-in counts may be incomplete. AI call logs do not include your transcript text.

Who processes it

PrepTalk runs on third-party services. Each one receives only what it needs for its job.

Supabase

Database, authentication, and file storage

Your account, profile, Job Search Kit access and saved answers, target roles, questions, practice sessions, transcripts, AI feedback, stories, company-prep notes and source links, private interview debriefs, coaching assignments and shares, and any resume you upload.

Google

Sign-in

Your Google account email and basic profile when you sign in with Google. PrepTalk does not read anything else from your Google account.

ElevenLabs

Voice interviewer

Your microphone audio during a practice session, the interviewer's speech, and the conversation transcript. ElevenLabs holds the audio recording; PrepTalk streams it back to you on request and does not keep its own copy.

Anthropic (Claude)

AI coaching and analysis

Session transcripts, the questions asked, your target role and level, recent feedback, Job Search Kit notes when you request AI review, your saved company-prep notes when you practice from that preparation, and, when you use those features, a pasted job posting, resume text, or a company name for research.

Vercel

Hosting

Standard web request data such as IP address and browser details needed to serve the app.

Sentry (only if enabled)

Error monitoring

Technical error reports. This is off unless the operator configures it for the deployment.

PostHog (only if enabled)

Product analytics

Which product events happened, such as a session starting or finishing. Transcripts, resumes, and company content are never sent as event properties. This is off unless the operator configures it.

Recording and who can see it

  • You see a recording notice before every practice session. Using the microphone starts the recording.
  • Your preparation is not public. Authorized PrepTalk administrators can review identifiable account information, coach connections, sign-in activity, target jobs, resumes, Job Search Kit work, preparation notes, questions, answers, transcripts, self-reviews and AI feedback to operate the service, investigate support issues, understand costs and evaluate quality. This includes content you have not shared with a coach. Views of student profiles and sessions in the admin workspace are logged. Job Search Kit coach review requests are created only for one-on-one plans; group and self-directed work is not automatically sent to a coach.
  • Sharing with a coach is explicit and per take. A share gives your coach the transcript, the saved coaching, and your self-review. Audio is not shared. You can withdraw a share and it disappears from the coach's workspace. Administrator access is separate: withdrawing a share or disconnecting a coach does not remove admin access. A person who is both a coach and an administrator retains that separate administrator access.
  • Starting an assignment from a coach does not share anything on its own.

Controls you have today

  • Delete a session. From your session history you can delete individual sessions or clear stale ones. This removes the PrepTalk record, transcript, and feedback.
  • Delete a resume. From your profile. The file and parsed text are removed from storage.
  • Delete a story. From the story bank, including its version history.
  • Withdraw a share. From the sharing panel on any shared take.
  • Flag a transcript or advice. Feedback screens let you mark a transcript as wrong or advice as not fitting, so bad AI output is not treated as evidence.

What has not been decided yet

  • Retention. There is no fixed retention period yet for audio, transcripts, or stories. Do not rely on long-term audio storage, and do not assume automatic deletion either. A policy will be chosen before the pilot grows.
  • Provider copies. Deleting a session in PrepTalk does not currently delete the audio held by ElevenLabs. Ask your coach if you need a recording removed at the provider, and they will arrange it with the operator.
  • Full account deletion. There is no self-serve button yet. Ask your coach and the operator will remove your data manually.

Questions

For anything about your data during the pilot, ask your coach directly. They are your point of contact and can reach the person operating the app. See the support page for what to include.
